Bridle-Less Riding – The Ultimate Expression Of Respect and Trust With Your Horse
This is one of my favorite videos with Annie, riding bridle less in the Enchanted Forest at the Parelli Center in Florida. I am highlighting it because one of the focuses of the Parelli Summit this year is Bridle-less Riding. Even if you have never wanted to ride bridle-less and don’t see the point, the preparation for bridle-less riding will help everything else you do with your horse.
Of course, you don’t start bridle-less. As Pat Parelli says, “Prior and proper preparation prevents P-poor performance.” More than one impulsive person has watched a bridle-less demo and has gone home, hopped on their horse, gotten bucked off and then proclaims that this Parelli stuff doesn’t work!
Start developing Respect and Trust on the ground. Develop Communication with groundwork. In the saddle, learn to develop a Seat Connection with the horse. Pat Parelli says:
“Don’t use your reins to turn, use your reins if they don’t turn.”
“Don’t use your reins to stop, use your reins if they don’t stop!”
“Don’t use your legs to go, use your legs if the don’t go!”
Ride on a Casual (loose) rein and practice NOT using your reins first. Turn with your eyes, belly button, stick, then rein. In our Parelli clinics, we will teach you how to have an Independent Seat so you don’t lean on the reins for balance. We will teach your horse to have Impulsion, where Whoa equals Go. We will teach you to communicate with the horse using your seat for Go, Whoa, Turn, Sideways, Backup, etc.
“The more you use your reins, the less they use their brains.” Pat Parelli
We will show you how to put a good Foundation on your horse so you can do all the things you dream of with your equine partner. Riding Bridle-less is fun! Come ride with me and I will show you the way!
